In a study published in Human Reproduction Journal 4, an ultrasound was used to evaluate blood flow to the uterus during acupuncture treatments. The study found blood flow increases during treatment. According to Dr. Nancy Snyderman, “when acupuncture needles are placed correctly, it can affect the nervous system. The idea is that you stimulate the nervous system, you can make the uterus quiet and allow blood to flow.” Relaxing the uterus and increasing blood flow allows for the successful implant of an embryo within the uterine lining.

Acupuncture and Oriental medicine can raise the fertility potential for women and men by affecting the quality, quantity, balance and flow of Qi (life energy) and blood. When Qi (pro.chee) and blood are circulating freely throughout the body, every cell, tissue and organ is properly nourished and functioning. When this occurs, a person’s health and fertility are increased. A balanced body is a healthy and fertile body.

Nutrition for Fertility

Proper Eating and Nutrition for Fertility and In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF)

The food we eat should provide us with the nutrients, vitamins and minerals we need. The quality of food you eat plays a vital role in the optimal functioning of the body, its hormones and cellular activities. Understanding the importance of acquiring proper nutrition from your food intake through unprocessed, organic food is the simplest way to help ensure you are getting the best of what you need from your food.

Additionally, lifestyle, metabolism, genetics, geographic location should all be factors to consider in your individual nutritional plan. Western nutrition combined with the understanding of food energy (a skill of traditional Chinese medical practitioners) should be considered for each individual.

Qigong for Fertility

Qigong is an ancient form of exercise that has its roots in the observation of the interplay of stillness and movement in nature, in animals, the human body, as well as the psyche and spirit. Qigong forms may incorporate movements found in nature like the rotation of the seasons or the dynamic of nature’s elements. There are thousands of forms of Qigong that encourage the natural flow of energy, blood and fluids through the body’s energy systems, organs and tissues.

For those dealing with infertility issues, you may try this exercise:

Relax the body and calm your mind. Go to a location that feels comfortable and safe. Stand with your fee shoulder-width apart and breathe slow, deep, deliberate breaths.

Place your hands over your uterus. The area of the body just above the pubic bone is called the lower dantian. Imagine your breath, flowing into your uterus, creating warmth with your intentional breaths. Feel the energy move through your palms and into your uterus.

Repeat this exercise over your kidneys. Kidney energy is essential for creating and maintaining reproductive health. Try also to focus the energy in the space between the kidneys or what’s known as the ming men, which is considered by Chinese medicine to be the life gate of the body.

Practice these exercises daily for at least 5 minutes at a time over each of these areas to help with reproductive fertility issues.

Childbirth is hard on a woman’s body and recovering can be more difficult since pregnancy throws off the normal hormonal cycle. The combination of physical strain and hormones can leave mothers feeling run-down, depressed and exhausted right when you need energy to focus on your newborn. Chinese medicine can help you handle these problems with ease and treatments can help you feel better when you need it the most. We are here to help you be at your best for your baby.
